Ice Storm – fleeting beauty

Pine Tree becomes art in an Ice Storm

As I lay in bed listening to the icy rain hitting the windows I was excited with the prospect of getting out with my camera to record the magical coating of ice that just such a storm creates. I knew I didn’t have anyplace to go this morning…working from home does have its advantages. I got dressed and headed out early because the ice doesn’t last long before it starts to melt away.

I shot a lot of close up images with my Nikon D3 paired with a 105mm Macro lens. Since it was very flat light I used an external flash off to the left of the camera to put some specular highlights into the frozen ice drips. A little post processing in nik Color Efex Pro 4 to give the image a tad more punch and warmth and voila!
